NYC CULTURE CORNER 🗽

Politically correct? No. Funny? Yes.

Last month I saw comedians Hasan Minhaj and Ronny Chieng at the Beacon Theater duke it out their in their roast comedy format, and inevitably, the topic turned to race and ethnicity. Anything from cultural identity as an immigrant, differences in cultural priorities and dating habits, nothing was off the table. While none of it was politically correct, it was refreshing to see the how show drove home some poignant issues and social commentary many people are too uncomfortable to talk about in modern discourse. Despite the performed aggression and ensuing hilarity, the show closed out with a warm point that felt dear to me and my mission with Borderless: that connection of the human spirit triumphs over cultural expectations and boundaries. Highly recommend checking out both of their Netflix specials.
